Riffstation piano chords
#Riffstation piano chords software
I want to encourage you to develop the skills that every musician should have instead of relying on software to (inaccurately) make up for those shortcomings.ĮDIT: I made a video where I go through the process I used to test RiffStation's accuracy. Technology can be great, but it can also provide an opportunity for you to sidestep the development of very crucial skills. But the moral of the story is: learn to use your ears! That's what being a musician is about. I can provide these files for anyone else if they're interested in trying it for themselves. RiffStation got the A and the E chords right, but it guessed D for the C chord, Bm for the Gm chord, and seemed to think that the static Cm chord was switching back and forth from D to A every couple strums (these are samples, they aren't different).

OctoRex acoustic guitar loops and created a track that played A C E Gm and Cm chords for 8 bars each (strumming 1/4 notes). I also wanted to test that 80% claim, so I used some Dr. I then created another file that had the chords C7, Cm7, and Cmaj7. RiffStation guessed C, Ab, C, and F, respectively. I created a file with the chords C, Cm, Csus2, and Csus4. Anyways, I thought I'd test that accuracy and see how well it can catch those other types of chords it allows you to manually enter. so I guess that's fair, but they should probably cool it with the "any song" brag. While that certainly invalidates their website's boast to "get the chords to any song", they do acknowledge on the site that it "detects major and minor chords with approximately 80% accuracy for popular music". The options you get are major, minor, sus2, sus4, dom7, maj7, and min7.

That sucks, but it explains why it can't pick them out automatically. It allows you to manually edit the chords if you think it guessed wrong (a nice touch) but it doesn't include options for diminished or augmented chords at all. Both in root position, using plain ol' sine waves and nothing else (so there's no extra harmonic content to potentially confuse the program). I created a track that played a C diminished triad followed by a C augmented triad. It can't recognize diminished or augmented chords at all.

People don't seem to appreciate my cynicism for the program, so I tested it.
